Linda's Perfect Day
After a sumptuous breakfast in the inn's dining room, I would explore the charming Village of Weston. Next, I would visit the town green and gazebo, the Old Mill with its museum and waterfall and the Farrar Mansur Museum.
Next, visit the 3 wonderful galleries which are the Village Green Gallery, the West River Gallery and the incomparable Whales in Vermont Gallery. I would purchase some ornaments at the Weston Village Christmas shop. Then I would go to the Vermont Country Store where a walk through this charming store reminds me of my childhood.
I would pack a picnic lunch and head to Buttermilk Falls in Ludlow to relax and take in the peace and quiet of Vermont. On the way back to Weston, I would stop at the Weston Priory for afternoon prayer where the Benedictine Monks chanting helps me find some serenity in my otherwise very hectic life.
Then, it would be back to my comfortable room with private deck, oversized Jacuzzi and sauna/steam shower. I would have a massage and then a nap!
At last, I would return to our lovely room and drift away on an amazingly comfortable feather bed.

Day Trip Itineraries
Weston is centrally located in Southern Vermont which makes day trips to all of the attractions of Southern Vermont very convenient. Here are a few suggested day trips:
Plymouth to Woodstock
Travel north on Rt 100 (featured recently in the New York Times travel section exploring 10 of the most beautiful roads in America) to Rt 100A in Plymouth, Vermont. Make a right and travel about 1 mile to the Calvin Coolidge birthplace on your left. The entire village has been preserved as it was in 1900. It is an interesting piece of history, and there are many shops where you can browse and purchase. Then travel further along Rt 100A, through picturesque mountains and farms, to Rt 4. Left on Rt 4 (west) just a short distance and there you will find the Long Trail Brewery, one of our wonderful Vermont brews. After touring the brewery and perhaps sampling their creations, head East on Rt 4 to Woodstock, a few miles down the road. You may be tempted to stop along the way at the many antique stores.
Once in Woodstock, you will find the many shops and galleries, as well as Gillingham's, the local country store, and Aubergine, a great "kitchen" store. By now you might be hungry, so get back on Rt 4 east 4 miles to Simon Pearce Glass Factory. There you can watch the famous glass blowing and pottery making, and stroll outside on the promenade along the river and waterfall. Be sure to have lunch at the Simon Pearce Restaurant, a glass structure with great views of the river and waterfall, and great food and drink to match. Also right next door is VINS (Vermont Institute of Natural Science) Raptor Center, a most interesting exploration of these live regal birds, and the Queechee Gorge, a natural canyon and waterfall system with a walking bridge over it. On the way back to the Inn, from Woodstock, take Rt 106 south to Rt 131 west and travel along the Black River with it's beautiful views, to Ludlow, then pick up Rt 100 south back to the Inn.
Manchester – A Shopping Paradise and More…
Take Rt 100 south to Londonderry, then pick up Rt 11 west 15 miles to Manchester, which has many outlets for intense shopping, but also many other interesting things to see. Start with the Southern Vermont Arts Center, a beautiful campus with many Vermont as well as international artists represented. Areas for a picnic lunch are provided and many Manchester delis and stores can provide a great lunch. Just down the road is Hildene, Robert Todd Lincoln's (Abraham's son) home. Tour the spectacular home and walk the fragrant gardens, and in winter cross country ski the grounds. A little further down the road is Mt Equinox, the tallest mountain in Southern Vermont, which has a winding and adventurous road to the summit, where you will find a parking lot and observation area where you can see Manchester far below, but also as far as New York, New Hampshire, and Montreal.. And just a bit further and you will come to the Battenkill, where you can canoe, kayak, or enjoy a day of fishing. And along the way, enjoy a relaxing lunch in any of Manchester's numerous restaurants.
Through the Green Mountain National Forest to Danby
Take a beautiful drive through the pristine Green Mountain National Forest located just minutes away from the Inn. There are numerous clear streams along the way, including beautiful Otter Creek, the namesake of one of our local Vermont beers, where you can park and hike along the river. Also along the way are spectacular mountain and forest views, and cliffs with natural marble running through them. In addition to the Otter Creek trail, you can also hike the Appalachian Trail/Long Trail, either to the north or to the south. The views of foliage color in the Fall cannot be surpassed! At the end of the fourteen mile drive is the quaint village of Danby, where several shops will delight you. On the return trip, many of the vistas are very different than during the outbound trip.
Art, Culture & History
Set in the heart of Weston Village, the historic Weston Playhouse a highly acclaimed theatre featuring live performances every summer from June to September. See this season’s upcoming shows and book one of our Stay and Play packages for the perfect getaway.
Museums & History
Weston has several small but interesting museums which address Weston’s history. The Farrar-Mansur Museum is a preserved home from the late eighteenth century, and a tour of the home is replete with information about life at that time. The next door Mill Museum is a restored West River powered waterwheel with many old tools and instruments which demonstrate for you how grain and corn were ground in an era before modern power methods became available. And don't forget to visit our Wilder Memorial Library on the Village Green.
Each year on Memorial Day Weekend, the Weston Historical Society conducts a walking tour of Weston's historical structures, with fascinating discussion of the history involved.
Art & MusicWe are very fortunate to have three outstanding galleries:
- West River Gallery
- Representing local artists and crafters offering a variety of mediums.
- Village Green Gallery
- Browse photography, crafts and glassware by local artists. The gallery also has a coffee/espresso bar for your refreshment. It is a wi-fi hotspot as well.
- Whales of Vermont Gallery
- Featuring hand carved whales and other cetaceans by renowned artist Wick Aherns. The gallery also represents local artists with additional sculpture and paintings and prints with a nature theme.
Located in Weston is also the Kinhaven Music School. Operating all summer long, the school houses talented students who need to audition for acceptance, and concerts featuring both faculty and the students occur every weekend. Weston also hosts a summer series of concerts on Sunday afternoons featuring guest artists at the picturesque Church on the Hill.
Not far from Weston, in Manchester, you will find the Southern Vermont Arts Center, featuring the work of Vermont and internationally acclaimed artists. And Manchester is also home to Hildene, Robert Todd Lincoln's (Abraham's son) ancestral home, with it's surrounding beautiful grounds and gardens.
